Finding an Address or Point of Interest (POI).
Click on the Search tool either in the Library list or in the Toolbar, or use Cmd+F. RouteBuddy will take you to the same map view you were looking at in either the Locations folder or a Place folder. The bottom of Content Area will change into a Find facility where you can choose to Find by Address; by all Points of Interest or by a sub-category of Points of Interest.
Find by Address
To use Find by Address with RouteBuddy you usually find that entering just the property number, street name and the zip code will have the best results. If you enter less than this then you may find that you get a number of addresses for the same street name in different towns. The RouteBuddy address search is based on the USPS addressing system.

When the address is found RouteBuddy will place a Waypoint on the map. If you have entered an address without the Zip or Post Code, RouteBuddy will return all addresses matching the address you have entered:

In the following example the Zip Code has been added to the search resulting in only one address being found:

As we sell Maps of many different countries it is true to say that each country has its own particular way of formatting an address. The data we receive from our Map data suppliers in not necessarily formatted as some users might expect it to be, e.g. Some Mail Offices require the City Name in the address, some the County. Consequently we are logging any address search issues that Users report back to us, adjusting our coding wherever we can and reporting any original data formatting issues back to our data suppliers.
Some tips for entering addresses:
Most addresses can be found with 2 basic pieces of information:- Property number and Road/Street/Lane name
- Postal/Zip Code
Each of these fields should be comma deliminated.
Some current known issues are:
- Our data does not recognise named houses e.g. Cheddar House, Wallace Road, Wensleydale
- Our Data does not recognise cardinal address look up such as: W62 N352 Windsor Avenue
- Our data recognises the address without the Town/City name and produces the correct address with the County name e.g. looking for 5 Green Crescent Road, simpsonville, SC 29682 will produce “No Items Found” whereas 5 Green Crescent Road, SC 29682 will produce 5 Green Crescent Road, Greenville, SC 29682
- Our data does not recognise full stop e.g. Marciel Ave. Madera, CA but does recognise Marciel Ave, Madera, CA or Marciel Avenue, CA
- Our data shows changes to the format of the address for different countries e.g. Kuninkaankatu 87 70100 Kuopio can be found as 87 Kuninkaankatu, Kuopio, 70100
Address references in the above examples are not real addresses.
Find Point of Interest
RouteBuddy Maps ship with POIs sourced by our map partner Tele Atlas. For example they supply nearly 2 million POIs for Europe and nearly 5 million for North America giving you, the RouteBuddy user a very wide choice of places to visit.
Click on the Search tool either in the Library list or in the Toolbar. RouteBuddy will take you to the last map view upon which you completed a search. Move to the area are of the map you want to search and we would suggest zooming in to a reasonable level so that the centre of the map is the centre of the area from the point you would like to search.

You can choose to find all POIs or select from 9 different sub-categories to narrow down the selection. The next option is to select the diameter around the centre of your currently shown map area, this ranges from 1 mile to 1000 miles if your Preferences are set to Imperial or 1 km to 1000 km if your Preferences are set to metric.
When RouteBuddy finds POIs which match your search a list will show in the content area with Name and Kind of POI, and the Icons and names for the POIs will shown on the map.

Sort the POIs
You can sort the POIs returned in A-Z order or in reverse by Name:

or by Kind

Adding a POI to one of your saved places.
Just highlight the Waypoint in the List and drag it onto your Place folder.

Go to your Place folder and you will see the Waypoint on the map.
