Road Maps
RouteBuddy Road Maps are high-resolution and rich in detail
OpenGL graphics and animation technology in RouteBuddy bring our rich, crisp road maps onto your screen for the easiest way to create your own data overlays, plan routes and analyse your track after any trip.
Of key importance to new users of our vector road maps are freedom from limitations imposed in other map software. Added to which, the unique ability to zoom in to house-level, out to the whole world, overlay Topo maps or even Satellite imagery from Microsoft's Bing Maps, then the user is presented with a wealth of valuable, and easy-to-use options, that make planning, or analysing, any journey a pleasure.

How can we create the best quality maps?
RouteBuddy Road Map data is sourced from TomTom, a leader in GPS navigation devices and owner of TomTom Map Licensing. Here's why we use TomTom's rich map data for our customers: The TomTom advantage
Architecture
RouteBuddy's approach to building vector-based road maps is to obtain the best data and then deliver the best maps.
- USA - Unlike other US map software we do not use "TIGER census map data"; TIGER data can be up to 10 years old and suffers from errors on a vast scale, we stick with the best in the business - TomTom.
- Europe and RoW - We only use TomTom road map data.
How to tell the difference?
Pick a roundabout as a datum point - Here's a clear one to view in Daly City, California: Entrada Roundabout.
Zoom in as close as you can in Google Maps (an "online" map which shows more detail than other "offline" map software) and count the number of straight lines 'used' to describe the outer "circle" of the roundabout - that's 15 lines.
Features
RouteBuddy's graphics technology is state-of-the-art, utilising OpenGL and the latest animation technologies from both Apple and Microsoft; When it comes to map graphics RouteBuddy offer the most modern experience in worldwide map rendering technology.
LayerTech. RouteBuddy's dedication to advances in map layer technology bring our users benefits no other map software offers; Planning your journey on a vector-based road map is one thing but adding analysis and feedback with the ability to layer rich and greatly detailed Topo and Satellite imagery with your road maps and under the route you've plotted (or track recorded) now offers a whole new dimension in map software.
From being the leading digital map application on Mac OS X, we now bring the same features, power and flexibility to millions of Windows users. Although RouteBuddy is now global, multi-platform, digital map software we do acknowledge that there are several existing applications on the Windows platform that, congenitally, suffer from overriding feature-bloat, as well as suspended development; Whilst RouteBuddy's customers on Mac and Windows can now enjoy the power and flexibility inherent in our software, which extends beyond what these traditional programs can offer, our development is dynamic, and we will be bringing carefully thought-out, and useful, new features to both platforms, and at the same time on both.
System Requirements
Our vector Road Maps can be used in RouteBuddy on both platforms, Mac OS X and Windows. Whilst our road maps can be used some older versions of each OS we would advise any user to take advantage of the latest which offer powerful and advanced features, such as location technology and animation, specifically Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Windows 7.Software: Mac OS X 10.5 or higher
