Recommended Devices

We cannot advise on which device best suits your needs, however this page contains a list of common devices and their level of support within RouteBuddy.

If you have a device that is not listed in our pictorial list below or in the customer feedback list, we recommend testing it with our free demo to confirm that it is recognised by RouteBuddy. You may also wish to ask on our forum to see if any of our users have the same device. If your device does not appear to be supported by RouteBuddy, please let us know.

Device Features

GPS devices support two basic modes:

RouteBuddy currently supports 3 types of devices :

• TomTom devices typically support synchronization of routes (TomTom ‘Itineraries’), allowing RouteBuddy to move information between your Mac and the device. TomTom devices do not offer synchronization of POIs which is done manually via the desktop.
• NMEA devices, which are often BlueTooth-based, can only report their current position. RouteBuddy can use this information to record a track, or to allow you to navigate with your device.
• Garmin devices typically support both modes, allowing RouteBuddy to transfer information to/from the device and track the current position for navigation.

RouteBuddy is currently unable to upload maps to devices, since device manufacturers use an encrypted file format for their data. In addition, some devices that can synchronize do not support the full range of data supported by RouteBuddy. It is important that you check your device user guide to assess whether it is able to support all the features RouteBuddy has to offer. If you are in doubt about the capabilities of your device, please test it with our free demo. If a device only supports the transfer of waypoints we have noted this in the device box below.

Please note that this list is based on the currently released firmware for each device, and firmware updates may add or remove features.
