Creating a route

route

Before you start creating your route, set your Options / Preferences to either Vehicle or Direct routing.

Create a route using the Route Tool

Win Creat Simple Route

  • We advise creating a new route in a new Place file.
  • Click on the Route icon in the tool bar, or use the keyboard commands:
Ctrl+Alt+R (Windows) Cmd+Alt+R (Mac) then click on the map to start a new route.
If you click very close to a previously defined waypoint RouteBudddy will use this as the start of the route.
  • The route(way)points will be uniquely numbers and have a prefix of RP.
  • Double click a point / waypoint at which you want to end the Route (or before you end the route, single click on other waypoints you want to visit). The waypoints will be linked by a blue line and the program will calculate the route according to the preference parameters you have set for routing.
  • If you want to move a waypoint after you have finished the route simply click the Select Tool and click on the waypoint. Drag the waypoint to the new place you want it to be. The route will re-draw and re-calculate.
  • If you have chosen to complete a route using the road maps and selected the Vehicle option under Routing options / preferences, RouteBuddy will snap the route to the roads using the underlying road network data and calculate the distance.
  • If you have chosen to complete a route using either the road maps or topographic maps and have set the routing options / preferences to Direct Travel, RouteBuddy will create the route directly between each waypoint and calculate the distance of the route.

When the route has finished calculating, you can click on the flippy triangles on the route editor window to give you a turn by turn listing of directions between the waypoints.

Change the position of a waypoint in a route

To change the position of a waypoint in the route:

  • Select the waypoint you want to move either with the Select Tool or by highlighting the waypoint in the browser view.
  • Change to the Move tool and drag the waypoint to where you want it to be. The route will re-calculate (on slower machines it sometimes takes the graphics a while to catch up. Just click on the Route in the Browser View and the route will snap into place).

Add some information about the Route

Win Route Editor Summary

If you wish to print the route press the print button on the route editor sheet window and the turn by turn directions will be printed.

Uploading your Route to your GPS Device

RouteBuddy Routing gives you all you need to be able to supply your existing GPS device with the coordinates it needs to use the route you have planned with RouteBuddy. Please note that this will only work if your device has the functionality to make it capable of saving Route information. Please refer to your device manual to find out whether it is capable of saving route information.

Create a Route using Menu option: Tools > Create Route

  • Highlight waypoints in the Browser view in the Content Panel.
  • Click Tools in the menu bar and then click Create Route. A route will be created and will include all the waypoints you highlighted.
  • You can then double click the route to bring up the route editor panel and re-order the waypoints accordingly, and then re-calculate.
