There are various ways of performing the following functions - by menus, commands and textual menus.
Below we detail some of the more popular actions.
We suggest you duplicate a track to keep a copy of the original before you start to work on it with commands such as splitting and joining.
This will be held in the locations database for you to refer back to if you want to re-instate the original.
This is extremely useful if you find you have forgotten to reset your GPS device before the start of your second track and when you download the file to your computer you find you've a straight line joining the two tracks.
Before you start splitting a track we suggest you make a duplicate of it so that it is still there in your locations database if you make a mistake. Once the duplicate has been made, remove the original (or the copy) from your place file and work on track.*get the point at which you want to split the track as close as possible to where you need it (this is where overzoom can be helpful!). If you have a waypoint in the way then this can affect that selection. Best to move any waypoints into a temporary place file whilst you are performing the split and then move them back later.
If you have recorded a track over a number of days, or have switched the device off on occasions during the recording of the track, these features will split the track into separate segments accordingly.
